Protecting Your Business from Counterfeit Currency

The Evansville Police Department is receiving frequent reports of counterfeit twenty-dollar bills being passed at several area businesses on 12/06/2023. Most security features on these bills match authentic currency (including passing counterfeit detector pens). There is a watermark present in the lower right corner of the bill, however, the image of Andrew Jackson has much bolder lines compared to authentic currency. There is also a difference in the texture of the bill.

In at least one scenario, the business was not aware they had received counterfeit bills and deposited these bills with the rest of their cash at their financial institution.
